Happy New Year! 2011 Year in Review

January 3, 2012

CW Hood 32For CW Hood Yachts, it was the year of the daysailer. Both Sailing World and Sail Magazine named the CW Hood 32 2011 Daysailer of the Year. In July, the molds for the boat were completed, changing the building process from the time- and labor-intensive one-off construction to the far more efficient “production boat” style of building. In November, Netherlands-based company Classic Daysailer was announced as the new European dealer for the CW Hood 32. At the time of writing, 4 of the daysailers are in production in our Marblehead shop.Wasque detail

This is not to say that daysailing is the only thing happening in Marblehead. The service yard has been working non-stop with refits, repairs, winterizing and the added excitement of hurricaine haul-outs for Irene. This year we welcomed designer Dave Robison, mechanic Will Parker, woodworker Chris Callahan, detailer Amy Hyam, controller Ian McGregor and boatyard dog Shep to our team. We launched an all-new website in May which is continuing to grow. Hull #44 of our downeast cruiser the Wasque 26 was launched in August and design for a new Wasque – probably 29 feet – is on the drawing boards with more cockpit and berth space than its 26’ counterpart and a new means of diesel propulsion. Just in time for the Newport International Boat Show in September, Katama 30 hull #25 was launched. Other boat shows attended included Chicago, Rockland, and Portland Maine.Katama 30
